Thread Forming Fasteners for Metal
MAG-FORM®
Standard thread-forming fasteners with a 60° flank angle create excess debris when driven into low-ductile materials. They can easily exceed the ductility limits of the material, causing damage to the formed threads.
MAG-FORM® fasteners are specifically designed with a broader flank angle to eliminate tapping operations while forming strong threads in conventional magnesium die-castings and similar materials. The design also minimizes debris, making MAG-FORM® fasteners the optimal solution for critical applications such as electronics and air bag modules.
FEATURES
► Lobular configuration
► Wide-spaced thread design
► Broad flank angle that compresses, rather than roll-form threads into the mating material
BENEFITS
► Minimizing debris generation
► Forms strong threads in materials with low ductility
► Allows multiple removals and reinsertions, unlike standard fasteners
► Easily removed and reinserted for field service
TAPTITE PRO®
TAPTITE PRO® thread forming screws advance current thread forming technology with the development of the Parabolic ProfileTM thread form. The innovative new thread form, when combined with the proven TrilobularTM cross section, provides low thread forming torque, excellent resistance to vibrational loosening along with high axial pullout and reduced overall cost of assembly. In addition to these great benefits, TAPTITE PRO® screws maintain torque tension relationships comparable to machine screws of equivalent size. TAPTITE PRO® fasteners also provide an improved failure mode; as a result of over-tightening in standard lengths of engagement, the screw will fracture within the screw threads.
FEATURES
► Deep thread engagements generates strong mating threads with uninterrupted grain flow
► No assembly line cross threading
► Superior vibration resistance eliminates need for add-on locking devices
► Eases assembly – low end load to initiate thread forming, less operator fatigue
BENEFITS
► Axial alignment
► Low end load
► Low thread-forming torque
► Efficient torque-tension relationships
► Resistance to vibrational loosening
► Resistance to axial pull-out
TAPTITE 2000®
TAPTITE 2000® high performance thread rolling fasteners are specially designed to lower your in-place fastening costs. TAPTITE 2000® fasteners form internal threads into plain holes in ductile materials upon initial installation, which:
• Eliminates the need to pre-tap the nut member
• Reduces problems associated with assembling screws and bolts into pre-tapped holes, such as cross-threading
FEATURES
► TrilobularTM Configuration
► Radius ProfileTM Thread lowers thread forming torque without sacrificing performance
► Roll Forms Own Work-hardened Mating Threads
BENEFITS
► Reduces friction, increases prevailing torque, resists loosening caused by vibration, and lower end load requirements
► Higher, more uniform drive-to-fail ratio, increased drive-to-strip ratio, excellent axial
alignment
► Results in higher strength internal threads due to the cold flow/work hardening that occurs during the forming of the nut thread
MAGGCERT®
MAGGCERT® threaded insert is a thread forming insert for magnesium components that allow machine screws to be applied at final assembly and later removed and reinstalled for servicing. It bypasses the need for hole tapping operations, minimizes debris generation during installation, and virtually eliminates serviceability problems caused by galvanic corrosion.
MAGGCERT® threaded inserts combine high mechanical strength and quick removal and reinsertion of screws, without serious concerns over galvanic corrosion. They provide a securely anchored joint and establish a fastening point for standard machine screws.
FEATURES
► MAG-FORM® external threads
► Standard Machine Screw internal threads
► TORX Plus® Drive System
BENEFITS
► Eliminates need to tap threads
► Makes magnesium joints fully serviceable
► Requires minimal end load to start
► Virtually eliminates thread forming debris
► Eliminates magnesium thread damage during service
► Uses machine screws at final assembly
